Programs and Admissions

Children at Mt Olive have a daily balance of indoor and outdoor play. All children have at least 1 hour of outside play in the morning and 1-2 hours of outdoor play in the afternoon.

Our Indoor activities include

Circle time, singing, storytelling, finger plays, games, science and nature activities, creative art experiences, and puzzles and activities to build small motor skills. Integrated into daily activities, children learn the letters of the alphabet, write their name, count and learn their colors.

Through creative art experiences, children are encouraged to use their imagination and discover new colors and try new ideas.

Involvement in these developmentally appropriate activities helps children build independence, self-esteem, and practice self-help skills. Playing with others builds social skills in working together, helps children develop conflict resolution skills, as well promoting independent learning. Children learn the essentials needed for being successful students in Kindergarten.

Outdoor activities include

A large climbing structure with 3 slides, monkey bars, ball play, games with movable parts, tricycles, scooters and two wheelers, dramatic play, art, a large sandbox that is covered every night and a quiet book area. Children also plant seeds and help with gardening in our many garden areas. In the warmer months, we incorporate water play in the curriculum and our 4 year olds take swimming lessons at the municipal pool at Santa Monica College.

Music Rhapsody

Every student enrolled at our preschool has a 30 minute music lesson every week with our music specialist. The atmosphere is joyful and game-like, full of singing, dancing and instrument-playing. Children play real musical instruments in a small group setting.

Church time

Every Tuesday and Friday, all the children attend a church time with our Pastor. This includes Christian songs and stories appropriate for all children.

Every Wednesday, we offer a gymnastics class with Peggy Fisher. This is an optional program for children who would like to participate in additional gymnastic activity.

We also have special guests come to the school for all the classes.

Parents are encouraged to come in and share their time and talents in the classroom whenever applicable.
