About Us

It is our philosophy that early childhood should be a time of fun, warmth, security, exploring and discovery. At Mt. Olive, children are seen as individuals with a variety of different learning styles. Our school strives to encourage these qualities by providing a secure, nurturing environment for each child attending our school.

Mt. Olive Preschool was established in 1972 as a Developmental School. We understand that children learn best by play, interacting with materials, and discovery. Through play, children learn about the world around them and the community in which they live, as well as the social skills and self-help skills that can encourage independence and self-esteem. The academic requirements for attending Kindergarten are also an important element in our Pre-K classrooms: letter recognition and writing, numbers and colors as well as journaling stories.

Our preschool program focuses of promoting independence and a positive self-concept through a developmentally appropriate curriculum. For example: our curriculum includes sharing and conversation time; stories, songs and finger plays; creative art activities and crafts; games and large muscle activities; cooking and measuring; science and nature activities. In addition, each week our whole school attends a church time with our Pastor. This includes stories and songs based on Christian ideals and principles. Also included in our curriculum is our weekly music program, Music Rhapsody.

Our professional staff provides a high quality of developmentally appropriate materials and curriculum for children age 2-5. Our staff recognizes each young child's need for close, consistent, supportive relationships with adults. Our staff-child ratio of 1:6 is carefully monitored and class schedules are planned so that children are with the same adults each day. Our staff turnover is low and our teachers and assistants are required to have a firm foundation in Child Development knowledge. Each staff member must have completed required number of academic classes, have had experience in the classroom and must continue their educational experiences through workshops, conferences and in-service training.
